A Couple Photoshoot in Paris: the Most Romantic Way to Keep What You Have
A Paris couple photoshoot is not about the monuments. It is about the sparks in your eyes when you look at each other, the tenderness you do not perform, the two seconds of laughter you will not remember by Thursday. I photograph that, and I do it in a city that has been quietly perfecting the art of being in love for two hundred years. These are the photographs you will open again and again, and every time the whole day will come back: the light, the cold, the way it actually felt.
That is the promise, and I have kept it several hundred times. What follows is everything I would want to know myself, if I were the one hiring a Paris couple photographer in a city I did not live in.
Who Books a Paris Couple Photoshoot, and Why
Honeymooners, obviously. Couples marking ten years, or one, or the simple fact that they finally have four days without the children. People who have been together since university and own precisely two decent photographs of themselves from the entire decade, both taken by a waiter who was in a hurry. And a surprising number who booked for no reason at all beyond being here, together, in June.
You do not need an anniversary and you do not need a ring. Some of the best galleries I have delivered came from a wet Tuesday in February, largely because nobody else was outside and the city belonged to the three of us. If you are wondering whether your reason is good enough, it is.
What a Paris Couple Photographer Gives You That Your Phone Cannot
There is a particular thing that happens when you finally see good photographs of yourselves together. You notice the way he watches you while you are talking to somebody else. You notice that your hand goes to his arm without either of you deciding anything. Living inside a relationship, you never once get to see it from the outside. That view is the real product here, and it is why I have spent eight years as a couple photographer instead of doing something sensible with my life.
It is also why I will not simply line the two of you up in front of a famous building and count to three. A couple photographer in Paris who does that is selling you a backdrop, and you can get a backdrop for free by turning around. I would rather hand you the evidence of how you were with each other that week.
Every Season Gives You a Different Paris
Spring is blossom and pale new green along the avenues, and the light is soft enough to forgive anything. Summer evenings stay bright until nearly ten, which means golden hour finally arrives at a civilised hour and nobody has to set an alarm for four in the morning. Autumn turns the whole city amber and is, without any hesitation, my favourite month to work in.
Winter is the season people hesitate over and the one that surprises them most. Bare trees, low gold light that lasts all afternoon, empty pavements, and a Paris couples photoshoot where the Tuileries are almost entirely yours. Bring a beautiful coat and trust me on this one.
So there is no bad month, only a different city each time. Tell me the week you are arriving and I will tell you honestly what it will look like, which is roughly the least a Paris couples photographer ought to do before you book anything.
Everything Else Is Below
Underneath this you will find the rest of it: the places I actually like to shoot rather than the ones everybody saves on their phone, how a session runs from the first message to the final gallery, what to wear, and what it costs. Read as much or as little of it as you like.
And if you would rather skip the reading altogether, that works perfectly well too. Send me your dates and tell me what you are hoping for, and I will tell you straight whether a Paris couple photographer is what your trip actually needs, or whether you would be happier with one more morning in bed. I have given that second answer before and I will give it again.
Why a Paris Couple Photoshoot Is Worth It
Anyone can take a picture of you in front of a famous building. What you are actually paying a professional for is everything that happens before the shutter.
I know the route: which streets are empty at seven in the morning and which turn into a coach park by nine. I know the light, and I plan your session around it rather than around a map, because the same bridge is a masterpiece at one hour and a flat grey disappointment at another. I know the angles that flatter you and the ones that do not, and I will not let you stand in the second kind. And I know how to make two self-conscious people forget I am there, which is the only skill on this list that actually matters.
None of that is glamorous and none of it shows up in the final images, which is exactly the point. A couple photographer in Paris earns their fee in the hour before you arrive and in the twenty minutes it takes to get the two of you laughing. The rest is just knowing where to stand.
You get the photographs back edited by hand, one frame at a time, in a private gallery you can share with anyone you like and order prints from directly.
Where We Will Shoot: My Favourite Places for a Paris Couple Photoshoot
Everyone arrives with the same three locations saved on their phone, and I understand why. But I have been photographing couples here for years, and the places that give me the best frames are rarely the obvious ones.
Pont Alexandre III at seven in the morning, when the gilded lamps are still lit and the bridge belongs to two joggers and us. The Tuileries, where those battered green chairs let you sit by the water and forget anyone is watching. Montmartre before the tour groups climb the hill. The courtyards of Le Marais, where a heavy wooden door opens onto a garden nobody photographs. The quays below the road, where the traffic disappears and you can hear the river. The striped columns of the Palais Royal, which turn a couple into a chessboard of light and shadow.
I will take you to a rooftop too, and to the arches of Pont de Bir-Hakeim, because some clichés are clichés for a reason and they still make me catch my breath.
What I will not do is hand you a list and let you choose blind. Half of these places are wonderful for forty minutes and ordinary for the rest of the day, and knowing which forty minutes is most of what a Paris couple photographer is for. Tell me the mood you want and I will build the route around it.
If your heart is set on one particular landmark, say so and we will build the route around it. If you want the tower right in the middle of the frame, that is a separate conversation and I have a whole page about a photoshoot at the Eiffel Tower. If you want the city lit up after dark, look at my night photoshoot in Paris. And if you are coming in December or January, the light is extraordinary and I have written about a winter photoshoot in Paris separately.
How a Couple Photoshoot with Me Actually Works
Three packages, and the only real difference between them is time. One hour gives you one neighbourhood and one version of yourselves. Three hours gives you sunrise on a bridge, coffee in between, and a second outfit by the time the light turns gold. Everything else, the care, the editing, the way I work, is identical in all three.
We talk first, before you pay me anything. You tell me when you are here, how long you have, what you are hoping for and what you are dreading. Most people are dreading the same thing: that they will look stiff and stupid in front of a stranger. Say it out loud, it helps.
Then I build you a route. Two or three locations close enough to walk between, arranged around the light. I will tell you what time to set your alarm for, and you will hate me at the time and thank me afterwards.
On the day, we walk, we talk, I shoot. No flash in the street, no holding a pose while I fiddle with settings. If you want a change of outfit halfway through, that is what the second hour is for, and if you would like something extraordinary to wear, I keep a rail of gowns for dress rental in Paris, and there is always the flying dress photoshoot if you want yards of silk in the wind.
A deposit of 25% holds your date, and the rest is due on the day. If you are not sure which package fits, tell me how long you are in Paris and I will tell you honestly. I have talked plenty of couples down to a shorter session when that was the right call, which is not the most commercial instinct a couple photographer can have, but it is the one I would want from somebody I was hiring.
What to Wear for a Couple Photoshoot in Paris
The question I get most often, and my answer disappoints people at first: wear what you would actually wear.
Long dresses photograph beautifully, because Paris has wind and stairs and fabric that moves gives me something to work with. Solid colours read better than busy patterns against pale limestone. Two of you in complementary tones, not matching outfits, unless you genuinely enjoy that. If you own something you feel spectacular in and have nowhere to wear it, this is the day.
Now the honest part. Bring flat shoes in a bag. We will walk further than you think, the cobbles are merciless, and no photograph is worth the look on your face at hour two in new heels. Heels for the frame, trainers for the walking. Every couple I have photographed on those streets has thanked me for this.
One more thing about the weather, because a Paris couples photoshoot in November is a very different proposition from one in July. Layers you can take off between locations are your friend, and a good coat photographs far better than visible shivering. If you are unsure, send me a photograph of the outfit before you pack. I would much rather answer your message in March than watch you freezing in silk in November.
That is everything. If you want a Paris couple photographer who will treat your two hours here as more than a transaction, write to me in whichever way is easiest and tell me your dates. I will do the rest.
